Discrimination
[Edit:] Sick of having my words twisted, misquoted and misinterpreted, so I’ll leave it at this: I believe people should be treated equally regardless of gender or ethnicity. I believe conference speakers should be selected based on merit, not to meet some arbitrary diversity quota. I believe that asking someone to speak based on race/gender hugely devalues their achievements. I think that...

– I always find it quite amazing when people receive a WordPress update and are immediately critical of certain elements of it (particularly with new/changed UI). Then I remember, I used to do exactly the same thing… before I started contributing to core. When it comes to contributing to...

GPL, WooThemes and a bit of credit →
I don’t want this to turn into some giant argument but just hear me out. Everyone raves about GPL, the community, giving back, blah blah. This kind of stuff generally drives me a bit mad but whatever, drop in the ocean stuff. WordPress 3.0 features a brand new way to organize your navigation…. Some facts need to be corrected here: Did WooThemes contribute code and concept to WP3.0...

Why The "Lost & Found" iPhone 4G is a Load of Crap
Consider the following: Apple is obsessively secretive. It’s almost as secretive as a covert government agency. Like CIA operatives, Apple employees won’t talk about what they do, even with their closest confidants: wives, boyfriends, parents. Employees certainly will not discuss their work with outsiders. Many won’t even refer to the company by name. Like superstitious theater...

eCommerce UX Question
I’m currently building a site which is going to be selling software, the pricepoint is around $100 and while there are lots of different bits of software available, users are unlikely to want to buy more than 1 item at a time. Based on that, is it wise to eliminate the shopping cart? So for example the user path would be Product Page > Login/Register > Payment Rather than Product...

Can Dogs Eat Raw Carrot?
Phil: can dogs eat raw carrot?
Phil: sorry, I know it's going amazingly off subject
Phil: but the dog just ran in here and it's got a carrot
Phil: I'm not taking it off it
Phil: I didn't think a dog would eat a carrot but I'm being proven wrong as we speak!

Writing a Book
I posed a question to the readers of my blog last week about whether or not they’d be interested to read a title by yours truly, something which I’ve been thinking about for a long time. I’ve been very pleased with the response to both the poll and the comments, so I’m going to go ahead and put together a book proposal at the very least. This will essentially be used to...

A Tumbl Per Day...
…definitely doesn’t keep the doctor away. But it might just be an ideal post frequency for this sort of format. 1 tweet per hour, 1 tumblr per day, 1 blog per week - that sort of thing. We’ll see how it goes!

800 Words > Tumblr > 140 Characters
There’s a small void in my online existance right now. Occasionally I have things to say which are longer than a tweet (140 chars), but shorter than my average blog post (800 words). So despite my skeptiscism in the value of Tumblr in the past, I’m going to give it a go. This concludes the introduction, please go about your business as normal.
